ARTIST STATEMENT

EKATERINA ANDRIUSHCHENKO

I am engaged in both research and applied artistic practice.

In my work, I explore the theme of individual mythology, which, in my view, forms at the intersection of essential symbols from global and local culture, as well as personal history.

Each of us is a small new Bible, a bearer of diverse signs and interpretations.

In my pieces, I use old wood and glass, metal, textiles, and fragments of objects that have already completed their main life and, through art, acquire a new one.

None of us is a blank canvas, and I am fascinated by this multilayered nature of a person. Instead of attempting to "decipher" the art and the artist's intent, I invite the audience to engage in deciphering themselves and their own fundamental beliefs.

Time is another central focus of my professional interest. In an era of churning through current trends for the sake of success, I can’t take my eyes off the shards and meanings that represent chronos. Human culture, to me, is a continuous thread, not Morse code in the form of dot-dot-dash.
